隨著PE管道在天然氣及供水行業(yè)的進一步普及，燃氣中/低壓管網(wǎng)由PE管逐步取代鋼管及鑄鐵管；由于PE管不導(dǎo)電，不導(dǎo)磁，無法對PE管進行示蹤，給日后的管道維修帶來不便，因此示蹤線也隨之出現(xiàn)。目前市場上常用的“示蹤線”有銅包鋼材質(zhì)示蹤線，薄膜鋼絲壓制示蹤線，電線示蹤線。

“示蹤線”同PE管一起鋪設(shè)；一般會采用金屬線芯，通過探測設(shè)備給“金屬線”施加信號，由探測接收機接收信號，從而找到示蹤線的準(zhǔn)確位置，即同步示蹤到PE燃氣管道的具體位置；以便于對PE管道進行改造及維修。

示蹤線的發(fā)展已經(jīng)歷三代：

1.代示蹤線：是由鋁箔和塑料薄膜的母體組成，鋁箔主要是傳輸信號，母體是固定鋁箔。這種示蹤線缺點：鋁箔強度非常低，即使在生產(chǎn)，運輸過程中也很容易斷裂，輔設(shè)易損傷，同時鋁箔的電阻非常大，有效探測距離和深度有限。

1. First generation tracer line: It is composed of a matrix of aluminum foil and plastic film, with aluminum foil mainly used for signal transmission and the matrix being fixed aluminum foil. The disadvantage of this tracer line is that the strength of aluminum foil is very low, and even during production and transportation, it is easy to break, and the auxiliary equipment is easily damaged. At the same time, the resistance of aluminum foil is very high, and the effective detection distance and depth are limited.

2.第二代示蹤線：是由鋼絲和塑料薄膜壓制而成，該示蹤線由鋼絲為導(dǎo)體，電阻大，探測距離有限，難以滿足實際需要。

示蹤線有專用的防護接頭，用于線于線之間的連接，接頭具備防水防腐的密閉腔體，將示蹤線裸露線頭放置于密閉腔體內(nèi)，從而保護裸露的失蹤線頭無法被腐蝕，接頭由PE材料制造，本身具備抗腐蝕、抗老化能力。

The exposed wire ends of the tracer line are placed in the sealed chamber, so as to protect the exposed missing wire ends from corrosion.
